When you build components for your own applications, you are working in a controlled environment and can make a lot of assumptions about how your component will be used. However, if you want to release components out into the wild? It is inevitable that folks will use your component in ways you didn't consider; and they're going to blame you if it doesn't work. This presentation will cover some tips and tricks to help you optimize your components for reuse. About the Speaker: Jeffry is a technical entrepreneur and the brains behind Flextras, a set of interface components for Flex Developers. He has a Computer Science degree from the days before business met the Internet and owns DotComIt, an Adobe Solutions Partner specializing in Rich Internet Applications. Jeffry is an Adobe Community Expert and produces The Flex Show, a podcast for Flex Developers. Jeffry is also co-manager of the Hartford CT Adobe User Group, author of 3 ColdFusion books and over 30 articles, and has spoken at various events all over the US. In his spare time he is a musician, old school adventure game aficionado, and recording engineer. He also owns a Wii. You can check out the components at www.flextras.com/?c= 107 , read his blog at www.jeffryhouser.com , check out his podcast at www.theflexshow.com or check out his company at www.dot-com-it.com.

Nitro-LM is a unique solution for implementing software protection. Licensing is often the first impression a customer has of your software. You want to control the use of your software, but don’t want to come across as “BIG BROTHER”. In this session, you will learn how to custom-tailor a non-intrusive end-to-end licensing user experience for your customers. We will discuss how to facilitate in-software communication and feedback between you and your customers using the Nitro-LM event notification system. Advanced features such as remote preferences, bundling suites of software into license pools, and encryption of Flex/AIR modules for source code protection will also be covered. Bios: Simplified Logic & Andrew Westberg (BIO) Nitro-LM (Nitromation License Manager) is a commercial product developed by Simplified Logic for managing users, products, notifications, and source code protection for applications. It started off as an internal tool to protect SLI’s 3D engineering design and automation software. It has quickly grown into a commercial application being used by Fortune 500 customers located across the globe, and continues to be recognized as the benchmark for licensing and encryption best practices and security policies. NitroLM has an API for C/C++, Java, .NET, and Adobe Flex/AIR. Andrew Westberg, Senior Development "Rock Star" for Simplified Logic, Inc. is a Flex/Java/C++ Developer. As developers we tend to spend most of our time working on the functionality of the Flex / AIR applications, but not so much on the look or style. Let's face it, the default Flex theme 'Halo' can be boring to look at every day. However, thankfully we have several options in how we can spruce up our applications with ease. We can use CSS or even develop our own Flex theme. In our April meeting, we'll spend some time going over the various ways we can make Flex look sharp. About the Presenter: John Mason manages the Online Flex User Group. He is also the founder and co-manager of the Atlanta Flash/Flex User group and a long time board member of the Atlanta ColdFusion User Group. He has spoken to a number of user groups and conferences about Adobe based technologies. He actively blogs at http://www.codfusion .com

Adobe has spent a lot of time making the Flex Framework components as reusable as possible. But, for normal development you do not need to create components that are as flexible or bullet proof as the ones in the Flex Framework. In this month's meeting we will learn how to build Flex Components for real world applications. And if you want to bullet proof your stuff, there will be an introduction for that as well. This meeting is Dec 18,2008 at 7pm EST. The URL for the Connect session will be.. http://adobechats.ad obe.acrobat.com/flex meetup/ Cliff Hall is a software architect and author of the PureMVC framework. He'll be discussing the framework methodology, the current status of the project and where it's headed. What is PureMVC? PureMVC is a lightweight framework for creating applications based upon the classic Model, View and Controller concept. Based upon proven design patterns, this free, open source framework which was originally implemented in the ActionScript 3 language for use with Adobe Flex, Flash and AIR, has now been ported to nearly all major development platforms. Two versions of the framework are supported with reference implementations; Standard and MultiCore. In short, the Standard Version provides a simple methodology for separating your coding interests according to the MVC concept. Beyond that, the MultiCore Version allows multiple PureMVC applications to run within the same virtual machine; modular programming.
